UKRAINE IN THE BIOGRAPHY AND WORKS OF JÓZEF KRASZEWSKI

Abstract
Abstract. The materials of the article are dedicated to the 214th anniversary of the birth of Józef Kraszewski (1812-1887) - an outstanding Polish writer, historian. It is noted that the scientific, publishing, bibliophile, library activities of J. Kraszewski have become part of the history and culture of such Ukrainian cities as Zhytomyr, Odesa, Kherson, Lviv, Kremenets. The articles of Barannyk M.V., Golobutsky P.V., Tverda R., Slyusary V., K. Kosyakevych K. about the pages of J. Kraszewski's biography, creativity, which are connected with Ukraine are presented. The letters of J. Kraszewski to France, which are stored in the funds of the Institute of Manuscripts of the V.I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, are noted. It is noted that the historical material on the history of Southern Ukraine from the pages of Yu. Krashevsky’s book “Memoirs of Odessa, Yedysan and Budzhak” is relevant for modern research on the history of the Northern Black Sea Region. Yu. Krashevsky in his book “Memoirs of Polissya, Volhynia and Lithuania” presented historical facts from the history of the Cossack era on the lands of Volhynia Polissya, which are relevant for research on modern Cossack studies. The article provides a brief historical and bibliographic review of Yu. Krashevsky’s books from the collections of the V.I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, the V.Stefanyk Lviv National Scientific Library of Ukraine, which contributes to the creation of a scientific index of Yu. Krashevsky’s books in the collections of Ukrainian libraries in the future.
It is noted that the funds of the National Library of Ukraine named after V.I. Vernadsky contain books by Yu. Krashevsky, translated into Ukrainian by Volodymyr Shabarovsky. In particular, these are the books by Yu. Krashevsky “Memoirs of Polissya, Volyn and Lithuania” ( «Спогади з Полісся, Волині і Литви» Lutsk, 2012, fund of the Electronic Library “Ukrainika” of the National Library of Ukraine named after V.I. Vernadsky), Yu. Krashevsky “Memoirs of Volyn, Polissya and Lithuania” ( «Спогади з Волині, Полісся і Литви» Zaporizhzhia, 2025). Bibliographic descriptions of some of the Polish books by Yu. Krashevsky, stored in the fund of Polish-language literature of the Department of Library Collections and Historical Collections of the Institute of Bibliography of the National Library of Ukraine named after V.I. Vernadsky, are presented. The article presents a list of book marks of Polish and Ukrainian libraries in Lviv, whose collections contained books by Yu. Krashevsky in the 19th and 20th centuries.
