Representations of Kyiv as the "Second Jerusalem" in the Church and Public Opinion in Rus-Ukraine

Abstract

The article analyzes the history of the idea about Kyiv as «second Jerusalem» and its representations in the church and public opinion Rus-Ukraine. The author stresses that despite the tragic fate of Kyiv, his frequent conquest and destruction by the Mongol-Tatar invasion, the people kept during the centuries the faith abut its special sacred center of the «Holy Rus».
