Abstract
In the article, based on the analysis of the materials of the archival fund of the Skoropadski, stored in the Central State Historical Archive of Ukraine in Kyiv, the peculiarities of the social and cultural life of the Ukrainian emigration in the territory of Great Britain in the 1930s – the middle of the 20th century are reconstructed. It is noted that the study of the activities of Ukrainian emigration centers in Great Britain is one of the gaps in the framework of the study of the history of the Ukrainian diaspora, but this problem is made possible by a little-known corpus of archival documents – the Skoropadski fund. This is motivated by the fact that the heir of Hetman Pavlo Skoropadskyi, Danylo Skoropadskyi, spent seventeen years of his life in London, which were the most fruitful period of his activity, and the hetman movement reached its highest elevation during these years under his leadership.
The documents of the archival fund of Danylo Skoropadskyi, who took an active part in all forms of social and cultural life of the Ukrainian emigration, reproduce the activities of political (Union of Hetman-Statesmen), public (Union of Ukrainians in Britain) and youth (Union of Ukrainian Youth, Plast) organizations. Danylo Skoropadskyi's archive contains almost the entire spectrum of the contemporary Ukrainian emigration press and journalism of various political currents and movements. The magazine "The Investigator" was distinguished by its special Ukrainian-centric direction. The above materials testify that the 50s of the 20th century constituted the most active period both for the activities of the Hetman movement and its publications. In turn, the Hetman press and journalism played a major role in the formation of the Hetman ideology and influenced not only the Hetman movement itself but also the entire Ukrainian political emigration, leaving a deep mark in the history of the Ukrainian diaspora.
